Overview

This 10-day journey follows one of the most spectacular routes from Chengdu into Tibet. Traveling westward along the legendary Sichuan–Tibet Highway, the journey gradually moves from lush valleys into the dramatic landscapes of the Hengduan Mountains and the Tibetan Plateau. Along the way, discover Zheduo Mountain, Xinduqiao, Maoya Grassland, the Nujiang 72 Bends, Ranwu Lake, Midui Glacier and Lulang Town. The scenery constantly changes from forests and grasslands to snow-capped mountains, glaciers and highland lakes. After reaching Lhasa, the journey continues with visits to Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street and Yamdrok Lake for a deeper introduction to Tibetan culture and landscapes.

Day 1 Chengdu → Yajiang

Depart from Chengdu in the morning and follow the Sichuan–Tibet route westward into the Hengduan Mountains. As the altitude rises, the scenery gradually changes from the plains around Chengdu to dramatic mountain valleys, grasslands and snow-capped peaks. After crossing Zheduo Mountain, arrive in Xinduqiao, a celebrated scenic area known for its wide alpine pastures, winding rivers, Tibetan villages and distant snow mountains. After enjoying the scenery, continue to Yajiang for an overnight stay and a well-earned rest before entering deeper into the plateau.

Day 2 Yajiang → Batang

Continue westward along the Sichuan–Tibet Highway today. One of the highlights is the spectacular Eighteen Bends, where the road winds dramatically along the mountainside and offers impressive views over the valleys below. The journey then enters the vast Maoya Grassland, where green pastures, grazing animals and distant snow mountains create a classic Tibetan Plateau landscape. Continue to the Sister Lakes, surrounded by mountains and open skies, before arriving in Batang for the night.

Day 3 Batang → Zogang

After leaving Batang, the journey officially enters the Tibet Autonomous Region. Cross the Jinsha River Bridge, an important geographical landmark along the route, before continuing through Lawu Mountain and Jueba Mountain. The landscape becomes increasingly dramatic, with steep mountain roads, deep valleys, alpine pastures and Tibetan settlements appearing along the way. The changing terrain and rugged roads make today one of the most authentic highland road-trip experiences of the journey.

Day 4 Zogang → Ranwu Lake

Today takes you through one of the most unforgettable sections of the Sichuan–Tibet route. Travel across the open Bangda Grassland before reaching the legendary Nujiang 72 Bends, where the road winds dramatically down steep mountain slopes, creating an extraordinary high-altitude road scene. Continue toward Ranwu Lake, where crystal-clear waters reflect the surrounding snow mountains and sky. Forests, glaciers and valleys come together to create one of the most beautiful lake landscapes in southeastern Tibet. Depending on weather conditions, there will be time to enjoy photography and a relaxing walk around the lake.

Day 5 Ranwu Lake → Bomi

Start the day with the peaceful scenery of Ranwu Lake, where the color of the water changes beautifully with the morning light. Continue to Midui Glacier, one of the most remarkable glacier landscapes along the Sichuan–Tibet route. Snow-covered mountains, ancient ice, alpine forests and Tibetan villages combine to create a striking natural setting. Walk toward the designated viewpoints to appreciate the glacier from different perspectives before continuing to Bomi. As the elevation gradually decreases, the landscape becomes noticeably greener and more forested.

Day 6 Bomi → Nyingchi

Today's scenery becomes greener and more pastoral as the journey approaches Nyingchi. Leaving Bomi, travel through landscapes where alpine forests, meadows and snow mountains appear side by side. Stop in Lulang Town to experience its peaceful Tibetan countryside atmosphere, with traditional wooden houses, pastures and mountain views. When weather conditions are favorable, enjoy views of Mount Namcha Barwa, one of the most iconic peaks in the Nyingchi region, famous for its dramatic shape and ever-changing clouds. Continue to Nyingchi for the night.

Day 7 Nyingchi → Lhasa

After breakfast, depart from Nyingchi and travel toward Lhasa along the Lhasa–Nyingchi Expressway. Compared with the more rugged mountain roads of previous days, today's journey is relatively comfortable, while still offering beautiful views of highland valleys, snow mountains and grasslands. Upon arrival in Lhasa, check in to your hotel and allow time to rest and adjust to the altitude. In the evening, enjoy some free time to explore the city's atmosphere at your own pace.

Day 8 Lhasa → Yamdrok Lake

travel from Lhasa to the magnificent Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet's most famous sacred lakes. As the road climbs into the mountains, panoramic viewpoints reveal the lake winding through the surrounding peaks. Famous for its striking turquoise and blue-green waters, Yamdrok Lake changes color beautifully with the sunlight and weather. Return to Lhasa in the afternoon and enjoy the spectacular evening view of Potala Palace as the city lights come on.

Day 9 Lhasa Cultural Discovery

Today is dedicated to exploring the cultural heart of Lhasa. Begin with Potala Palace, the magnificent hilltop complex that has become the city's most iconic landmark and an important window into Tibetan history and architecture. Continue to Jokhang Temple, one of the most important religious sites in Lhasa, where visitors can experience the city's deeply rooted spiritual atmosphere. In the afternoon, walk through Barkhor Street and along its traditional pilgrimage route, observing Tibetan architecture, handicraft shops, local markets and tea houses. This relaxed exploration provides a deeper understanding of Lhasa's history, culture and everyday life.

Day 10 Departure from Lhasa

After breakfast, your private transfer will be arranged according to your flight or train schedule.
